Laura West's aim is to create books that become design classics like the Cadillac convertible or the Stark lemon squeezer. Although the beauty of the object shows in its shape, structure and materials, the underlying principle is that the object is durable and functions well.
With a BA in bookbinding, strongly based on historic book structures, she is inspired by how the form of the book has changed throughout time and within different cultures. By experimenting with materials and form, new and sometimes unusual books are created. Her hope is that the books are beautiful enough to display in any environment and are always a pleasure to use.
